The making of our massive oak dining tables, is quite intense.

Every piece is sculpted into the right shape, making every table unique.

We use saws and machines (of course) ... but the finesse is all done by hand.

We make a plan of every table that is ordered ...

Alltough the model might be the same, when lengths or widths are altered, proportions are reviewed. To make sure all is balance ...

Special moulds are made for the feet ...

No machine can give the right characteristics this table needs ...

The other day, I was passing by a small (older people's) house, with a low faux bois cement fence, some gnoms in the garden and strangelooking cacus trees ... so typical for some of the "surviving" houses of way back.

At some point it's so wrong it becomes right again ... in the right enviremont. Looking on the internet I found som nice pieces of furniture ....

In these legs a electric wire can run trough, making sure the table's feature are not disturbed by the wiring.

Desirée is a dinging table but with some small (undistrubing features) it can be the perfect desk, a workspace heaven.

Oak tree with Old WW2 wound ... This bullit got lost in a tree and this tree found it's way to our shop. After 65 years it's finaly out. Poor tree ... Fortunatly Geert saw it on time ... Saws are allergic to metal tidbits!

I've been fancying these gorgeous ligths for over a year now ...

They might be made from recycled cardboard or scrap ...
but just look at this exquisite design!

The paterns of the light that finds it's way trough the gaps on the walls are graphic murals

Scrap light shades are made entirely from repurposed cardboard boxes. all of our lampshades are handmade and therefore can vary slightly in shape + size. DISC-shaped shades may range in diameter from 12.5-16".

two types of cords are available, both of which are available in black and white colors. hardwired cord-sets are ready to wire and include a 5" diameter ceiling canopy kit in the matching color. plug/switch swag-sets are 15' in length and plug into standard US electrical outlets. they also have a switch integrated into the cord about mid-length. swag-sets are available for other countries as well! please contact us if you're outside of the united states.

lead time for scrap light orders varies, and is currently 4-6 weeks.

Felixpakhuis etc

A while ago, a friend and I subscribed for a small fair "Marktje van 't schoon leven", ... located in the Felixpakhuis (in Antwerp).

With one trestle table, a few Augustin cubes and some wonderful kelims (my best friend brought me from Morroco) I hung around in one of the most extraordinary locations in Antwerp and this for an entire day ...
I was in such awe ... this building is just gorgeous. I loved the walls, the floors, and colorpallet ...

I enjoyed a latte .... a coffee ... another latte ... coffee ... behind our Henrie trestle table, ... the first time ever I enjoyed sitting behind one of our tables, I never get the chance to sit at one of them. :(
So you can imagine, I had a great time ... perfect location and enjoying Geerts work.

Now ... very important:
Have brunch at the living in the felixpakhuis ... you have to make a reservation!! I think I'm up for a reservation very soon!

How home decorators or interior inspired people enrich our craftmanship is one of the most important aspects for us and our collection.

That is why I'm dedicating a series of posts to company's/people who know where and how to use our fruniture. Marie, Henri, Augustin etc. look great when they are in our "Atelier" - workhouse, but when they leave, for their new home, it's good to know they will be taken care of cherished. Time will give them character, people will give them a soul and we feel satisfied.

First in the series of "enriched" is: "Emily et Nous", a belgian company located in the lovely Brugge.

Isabelle is a 28 year-old, self-taught artist who lives and works in Boston, Massachusetts. She began to develop her craft in 2007 while working as a school nurse by day. In 2008 Isabelle began selling her work at outdoor markets and on the craft website Etsy. To date Isabelle's ceramic artwork has been featured in the Boston Globe, Boston Home Magazine, InStyle Magazine, Daily Candy, Apartment Therapy, and Epicurious.com. Isabelle's current body of work is made from porcelain, silver, gold, and platinum and focuses on incorporating patterns of negative space into functional works of art. All of Isabelle Abramson Ceramics' artwork is created solely by Isabelle and each piece is hand-signed before being fired.

Isabelle's work can be purchased online through this website or directly from her studio at 450 Harrison Ave in Boston on the first Friday of each month (from 5-9pm) or by appointment.

CANDLE CUBE II

The candle cube has smooth sides and bottom, in contrast the top which is very rough.
When the candles are lit, the structure of the wood is accentuated by the light ... a joy for the eye.

I love watching dancing flames in a fireplace ... and adore the warmth.

We don't have a fireplace.
But when I light up all my cubes (all 8 of them), I create my own little inferno ...

The cubes are available in different hights.
You can put them together ... or maybe you just need one.
The candleholders are 12 x 12

Kristina Ruell is a briliant illustrator ... who has quit a bit of books published by publisher "De eenhoorn".
Not only books ... but also tons of illustrations for Flair, Knack, Davidsfonds, Libelle, etc etc ...

She has been hit by the creators bug, as a lot of busy mommy's have been these days, ... so here's to you Kristina ... it looks great!!!

Alle meubels worden in eigen atelier geproduceerd en worden vervaardigd uit massief hout volgens de klassieke methode van meubelmaken.

Modellen worden nog steeds met de hand, op schaal uitgetekend om zo de perfecte proporties na te streven. Malvini werkt enkel met functionele constructies en geen sierconstructies.

I've had cats eversince I was born. Horsocopes are generally veryyyy general, but this chinese one is kinda spooky for me.

PRINS STINKERD:

Waarschuwing: Plaats een wasknijper op je neus voordat je dit verhaaltje leest!

Ik ben er zeker van dat jullie al wel eens verhaaltjes hebben gehoord over frisse en dappere prinsen en koningen, over verre landen en magische koninkrijken!

Dit is het verhaal van Prins Melvin.

Melvin is een anti-prinsje , hij is totaal anders dan de “gewone” prinsen.

Deze prins stinkt… heel, heel, heel, heeeel erg.

Hoewel hij heel schattig, vriendelijk, slim en grappig is, zit hij met dat ene kleine probleempje… hij stinkt. Omdat hij water haat!

Waarom haat hij water?

Wel, het begon allemaal met een onschuldig kinderverhaaltje over een watermannetje: “Bad-Man”. De Bad-Man woont in badkuipen en in zwembaden en kriebelt aan je voeten! Je weet nooit of hij mee in bad zit ! Dat is best akelig als je er even bij stilstaat!

“Bad-Man” is eigenlijk een verhaaltje dat kinderen nieuwsgierig maakt naar water zodat ze ooit dapper genoeg zijn om hun held te ontmoeten ! Omdat hij toen nog maar een kleuter van drie was, en sowieso geen al te grote fan van water, had dit verhaal in geen geval een gunstige invloed op kleine Mel ! En het werd al vlug duidelijk dat Melvin geen superheld was. Hij had geen enkel gevoel voor avontuur in zijn kleine lichaam .. hij was nog banger dan een wezel!

Koning Gilbert en Koningin Frieda waren wanhopig en hadden reeds alle mogelijke trucjes uitgeprobeerd. Ze probeerden Melvin om te kopen met snoepgoed, speelgoed en knuffeldieren. Ze verzonnen verhaaltjes over water dat op magische wijze droog wordt, zelfs doorschijnender dan het al is, zodat Bad-Man er zich niet meer in kon verschuilen. Deze verhalen maakten het alleen maar erger, en overtuigden Melvin ervan om geen voet meer in een bad te zetten. Nooit meer !

En nadat Gilbert en Frieda zowat alles uitgeprobeerd hadden en heel der vrachten houten wasknijpers hadden versleten, besloten ze om een tweede kasteel te bouwen, speciaal voor Melvin… zonder diepe badkuipen, zonder wastafels, zonder wasmachines of andere zaken die met water te maken hadden. Het verhaal van Bad-Man werd uit alle boekenwinkels verbannen en niemand mocht ooit nog de naam “Bad-Man” uitspreken!

Prins Melvins bestaan had een diepe invloed op alles en iedereen.

Zonnebloemen die naar hun geliefde zon gericht waren, draaiden zich om wanneer Mel hen vol bewondering aankeek ! Pluizige paardebloemen wachtten niet op Melvin om weggeblazen te worden met één diepe zucht ... Nee, ze vlogen uit zichzelf weg… zo ver ze konden ! En zelfs dat was nog niet ver genoeg .

Frisse, groene bomen sloegen plots een seizoen over, alsof de zomer nooit bestaan had. Wat best OK was voor Mel, omdat hij gek was op het geluid van bladeren die onder zijn stinkvoeten krispten! Krisp, krisp!

Vogels vlogen supersnel naar het zuiden om nooit meer terug te komen. Het exotische zuiden was nu dubbel zo aantrekkelijk.

Sokken verstopten zich, uit angst om ook maar één dag door te brengen in zijn al even bange schoenen!

En zelfs water liep weg, uit schrik om samen met de prins in bad te gaan.

Melvin had één goede vriend, zijn enige vriend eigenlijk. Juan de Spaanse huisvlieg. Juan had een reukprobleem. Wat een geluk voor Pins Mel!

Juan vloog waar Melvin ging. Ze zagen hoe vogels hysterisch wegvlogen, hoe bomen hun bladeren kwijtspeelden en zonnebloemen zich omkeerden. Ze hadden dolle pret. En toen Juan hem eens vroeg of hij niet graag meer vrienden wilde hebben, antwoordde Melvin eenvoudig: Ik heb genoeg aan één dikke vriend!

Dit betekent niet dat zijn familie hem in de steek had gelaten. Ze schreven brieven of verstuurden e-mails. Ze hadden verrekijkers ... en ze waaiden hem toe van op een afstand. Het waren de beste mama en papa ooit! En kwamen ze Mel dan eens bezoeken, dan werden er gewoon wasknijpers bovengehaald ....

En toch, wilde Melvin op zekere dag Koning zou worden, dan zou er wel een probleem kunnen ontstaan. Wat voor Koning zou Melvin zijn, als hij iedereen deed weglopen? Geen feestjes, geen dappere mannen om tot ridder te slaan, geen prinsessen om op verliefd te worden!

Dit zette Prins Melvin aan het denken. Geen prinsessen om mee te trouwen? Geen toekomstige Koningin? Geen eeuwige liefde? Geen zielsverwante? Kortom: zo jong als hij was, begon hij te panikeren. Dit was niet aanvaardbaar!

En zo kwam het dat hij een bericht stuurde naar zijn moeder en vader en hen verzocht de beste “anti-bad-man” specialist in het land te ontbieden.

Help!!!!

Uw teergeliefde zoon Mel

Dr. Hydro arriveerde de volgende morgen, en hij bood Prins Melvin zijn beste diensten aan. Hij begon met de prins een glas water aan te bieden, wat Melvin natuurlijk afwees! Dr. Hydro legde hem uit dat Bad-Man zich nooit zou kunnen verstoppen in zoiets kleins, doodeenvoudig omdat hij er niet in paste. En toen dronk Melvin uit het glas. En hij had nog nooit zoiets lekkers geproefd ! “Wat een verfrissing, heb je dit nog in andere smaken?”

Plots begon het te regenen. Dr. Hydro stelde voor om een wandelingetje te gaan maken. Dat zag Melvin helemaal niet zitten! En opnieuw verzekerde Dr. Hydro de Prins dat Bad-Man onmogelijk in een regendruppel kon passen en zelfs als hij dat kon, dan was de kans dat hij in één specifieke regendruppel zou zitten, één op duizend. Hoe dan ook, waterdruppels waren geen partij voor Bad-Man.

Toen gingen ze op stap… al zingend, in de regen! Hij waagde het zelfs om in een plasje te springen!

Dr. Hydro leerde Mel ook dat als er geen water zou zijn, niets zou kunnen bestaan! Dat de mens voor 65 procent uit water bestaat! EN dat de aarde bestaat uit drie keer zo veel water dan er aarde is! Dat zonder water geen vuur geblust kon worden. EN dat waterpret zoveel leuker is met water.

Dr. Hydro won langzaam maar zeker het vertrouwen van Mel en water werd al snel iets meer dan slechts een schuilplaats voor een slechterik. Het werd eigenlijk iets magisch … Mel doorstond al de waterproeven van Dr. Hydro en voelde zicht ... euhm ... de koning te rijk!

Maar hij was ondertussen nog steeds NIET in bad geweest!

En als kers op de taart ,nam Dr. Hydro Mel op zekere dag mee om een keertje te gaan vissen. Juan was ook van de partij. Ze hadden enorm veel pret. Mel gooide zijn vislijn in het water en ving ... totaal niets. Dr. Hydro was aan het vertellen over Einstein en Freud (heel belangrijke mensen, jullie leren ze nog wel kennen!), en Juan vloog over het water, waar hij af en toe aan nipte om zich te verfrissen.

Plots sprong een klein onschuldig visje uit het water omhoog, dat dacht dat Juan een snackje was. Nog voor de gup met Juan in het water verdween dook Melvin zonder aarzelen zijn vriend achterna.Tien seconden later kwam de heldhaftige Mel weer boven met de gemene vis. Hij pakte de vis met duim en wijsvinger bij de staart en schudde er zo hard mee dat de vis het noorden kwijt was. Hij hoestte Juan meteen weer uit

Juan had zelfs niet gemerkt wat er gebeurd was. Het visje hield er een kleine hersenschudding aan over en zwom al gauw weer in het frisse water. Melvin liep naast zijn schoenen van fierheid en dat vonden zijn schoenen best wel fijn.

Dit moeten we melden aan de koning en koningin!

Het nieuws verspreidde zich als een lopend vuurtje. Tot in alle windstreken van het koninkrijk! Overal werd over de heldendaad van prins Melvin in geuren en kleuren verteld. Van mond tot mond ging het: “ Prins Melvin heeft Juan gered van een enorme vis met scherpe tanden.” “Prins Melvin heeft het opgenomen tegen iets bangelijk groot en onverslaanbaar! Hij heeft bijna zijn eigen leven gegeven!

Met veel toeters en bellen kwam Mel aan bij het kasteel van de koning en koningin. Hij werd gevolgd door een hele stoet die wel tot aan de horizon reikte! Iedereen wou de held zien ... ze tierden en juichten! Wat een held! Leve onze Prins! Leve onze Prins Stinkerd! Hij heeft een mega groot watermonster verslagen en zo gans het koninkrijk gered!”

Dr. Hydro verkondigde Koning Gilbert en Koningin Frieda dat de Prins genezen was en presenteerde hen een dikke vette rekening.

De koning en koningin waren zo gelukkig dat ze helemaal vergeten waren dat hun zoon niet bepaald fris rook en ze omhelsden hem zo hard ze konden. Tientalle meisjes liepen zuchtend en gillend de Prins achterna: “Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii ... Prins Melviiiinnnne!!!!” En ’Zuuuuucht, ... wat een held!”

De bomen kregen terug groene bladeren, de zonnebloemen keken vol bewondering naar Melvin in plaats van naar de zon ! Vogels kwamen van wijd en zijd aangevlogen… en sokken stonden aan te schuiven om over Melvins voeten te worden getrokken !

Het koninkrijk bloeide helemaal op …

“Leve De Prins ... leve onze prins Stinkerd!”

Eindelijk werd de prins aanvaard voor wat hij was, en de wereld rondom hem paste zich aan.

Wasknijpers waren plots zeer in in het koninkrijk. Een hebbedingetje dat je altijd op zak moest hebben . Ze waren er in alle kleuren,, maten en modellen! “Heb jij de nieuwe Wasso 2008 al? Neen ik gebruik een Houtje 3100 limited edition.”

En terwijl iedereen in het koninkrijk wasknijpers aan het vergelijken was, groeide onze prins uit tot één van de meest geliefde prinsen allertijden!
